Architecture @DDW: when the party is over

Author: Naomi, Posted: October 31st, 2010

The party is over…
Great third anniversary. We had fun during the tour, the reception and the party in Eindhoven. Lot’s of happy faces and positive feedback. Read some of it on this twitter feed #archddw
Soon a more extensive review on the Architecture @DDW day. Now we’re enjoying the weekend, taking some rest before the next event starts (visiting WAF in Barcelona from 3-7 November). And as a bonus we got an extra hour due to the summer-winter timer change. Enjoy!

Ow, and yeah, if you have any photos / videos, add tag #archddw and post them on flickr / youtube. Of course, you can also email them to us, we might place some on our blog.

Trespa DDW stand
Trespa – Arpa stand at DDW 2010

At the Architecture @DDW network reception 6 companies will present themselves during a 10-minute pitch in an informal setting.
We’re convinced their presentations will appeal to our audience of (mostly) architects, because all of them are practicing some kind of interesting business that’s rubbing to our field of industry in some kind of way…. Curious? Come and join us!

Pitch #1 is hosted by Trespa International:

Trespa International B.V. is a leading global producer of innovative and inspirational façade solutions, turning architectural ideas into a
lasting reality. Trespa manufactures high-performance Meteon panels for façades and exterior applications used in construction markets around the world. It is available in many colors, textures and finishes offering almost unlimited design possibilities for façades.

Experience your creativity
At DDW 2010, Trespa presents together with Arpa the creative variety of their HPL solutions at the ‘experience your creativity’ stand. In an inspiring setting by PeLiDesign, visitors experience the features of the high-performance panels for stunning façades by Trespa and the wide range of collections for interiors by Arpa.

Pitch #5: 40WATT

Author: Naomi, Posted: October 25th, 2010

At the
Architecture @DDW network reception 6 companies will present themselves during a 10-minute pitch in an informal setting.
All 6 are practicing some kind of interesting business that’s rubbing to the field of architecture in some kind of way…. Curious? Come and join us!

Pitch #5 is hosted by 40WATT:

WATT’s new!?
Three entrepreneurs from different disciplines that have joined forces to take city promotion to the next level. 40WATT is a proactive promotion and production studio, situated in Eindhoven. The focus is currently on ‘our own’ city, with Eindhoven in the limelight, but plans to conquer other cities are firmly underway. 40WATT distinguishes itself from the competition with an enormous network of entrepreneurs, institutes and suppliers as well as new links with creative freelancers. We always find a good match between client and freelancer so that we can achieve the very best results from them both. The inner city is our home and we therefore know like no other all that’s going on. We listen and build bridges. 40WATT is slightly cheeky and wonderfully innovative!

MAPPS is developed to offer clients an affordable location based application. If you have a database with details of restaurants, sales points, parking areas, or buildings? With Mapps you can easily make this information available to your customers.

Pitch #4 is hosted by Freedom of Creation:

Freedom Of Creation believes in a future where data is the design product, and where products are distributed in the same way images and music travel through the internet today. FOC visions a future where storage is virtual, and the materials used for creating tangible products can be recycled and reused for any future creation people’s hearts desire.

FOC’s work has something revolutionary, its products and services are part of a new movement that is changing the world. The journey of FOC started in 2000 with creating products for interior design. The company has come a long way and is now spreading the Freedom Of Creation message to a vast selection of clients in all areas of product development all around the globe.

Pitch #2: De Architect

Author: Mieke, Posted: October 25th, 2010

At the Architecture @DDW network reception 6 companies will present themselves during a 10-minute pitch in an informal setting.
We’re convinced their presentations will appeal to our audience of (mostly) architects, because all of them are practicing some kind of interesting business that’s rubbing to our field of industry in some kind of way…. Curious? Come and join us!

Pitch #2 is hosted by De Architect:

Dutch Architecture magazine De Architect is curious to know your thoughts on the projects you will be visiting during the The Architecture @DDW tour, on architecture in general, and on the city of Eindhoven. That’s why they would like to invite you to share your thoughts, criticism and observations during the day via Twitter by using the hashtag #archddw in your tweets. As a hidden agenda, de Architect wants to find out what the merits of Twitter are for exchanging ideas and observations on architecture.

The Challenge
In order to make the experiment more interesting, de Architect is challenging all participants to the Architecture @DDW tour: during the trip, please select one favourite project (or more if you feel like it) and type down your visit in 6-8 tweets.

Rules
You are free to decide what you want to tweet: do you want to focus on detailing, context, or theoretical embedding? Just make sure your tweets convey a coherent characterization of the project. Also, you might want to start your twitter-session by mentioning the name of the project and the name of the architect. Don’t forget to include the hashtag #archddw in your tweets or they will get lost in Twitter-space! Apart from this challenge, please use the #archddw hashtag during the trip whenever you feel like sharing your thoughts.

Award for best tweet-review!
During the Meet & Mingle network reception after the tour Sander Woertman, managing editor at de Architect, will present the outcome of the Twitter Event and proclaim the best project review. The winner will be rewarded with fame for life and a one-year subscription to de Architect, which includes 11 editions and 4 specials on interior design. The Architecture @DDW Twitter Event will be published on the website of De Architect as well.

Twitter-newbies
If you haven’t got a Twitter account yet, register here and follow the tweets of MIMOA and De Architect.

Background info
Anticipating on this twitter event, Sander Woertman wrote an interesting article on the website of De Architect titled: "Twitter als redding voor architectuurkritiek?" ("Twitter as alternative to architecture criticism?"). Read it here!

Pitch #6: Rnul Interactive

At the Architecture @DDW network reception 6 companies will present themselves during a 10-minute pitch in an informal setting.
We’re convinced their presentations will appeal to our audience of (mostly) architects, because all of them are practicing some kind of interesting business that’s rubbing to our field of industry in some kind of way…. Curious? Come and join us!

Pitch #6 is hosted by Rnul Interactive:

Rnul Interactive deals with interactivity in a wide sense. Installations and performances in which sound, (moving) images and physical movements are used to get an interaction with the ‘user’. We use all kinds of ways to analyse the behaviour of visitors to use this information to respond to them. This interaction is translated in a way that a vistor becomes a part of the work itself.

Rnul Interactive is an initiative of Aart Muis (Rotterdam 1980) and Rob Donkers (Gouda 1977) who both graduated from the Willem the Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Rnul has made installations, performed, and held workshops and lectures in places such as New York, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Brussel and Rotterdam with different projects and collaborations.

Photos: The Urban Lightguide. For the Rotterdam Museumnight Rnul made this interactive sound and light installation where people could participate in. By pointing the searchlights on the buildings around the square people could search for sounds of the city which formed a rythmic composition with sounds of the other searchlights.
