Vamos a Donostia – otra vez

Author: Naomi, Posted: July 30th, 2010

There is hardly anything to add to the posts that we’ve published in preceding years. In 2008, 2009 and again in 2010 we leave MIMOA behind, and take 10 days off, to go into retreat. We take 10 long days to replenish ourselves in the Basque Waves and return with renewed vigour.

To avoid repeating earlier attempts in describing our anticipation, here’s a compilation of quotes collected from the web to illustrate our current state, and two shots to show you what’s on the menu next week ;)   We hope you have a great summer – and see you soon on MIMOA, with new freshly visited collections of projects!

"A beautiful town by the sea side, famous for explosive waves crashing on the edges of the bay, the countless pintxo bars,
the surf culture, the film festival, a hub for Basque patriots,
charming paved streets lined with high-end fashion stores.
I developed a heady crush for this place."

"Seriously, there’s no need for you to go to there. I’ll put my cards on the table. I love San Sebastian, from top to bottom. I love the Kursaal bridge which leaves you with a fine coating of sea spray when you cross… This is not one of those loves you share, unfortunately. It’s a selfish love. Not the Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name, but certainly the Love You Dare Not Seek To Share. I want to keep San Sebastian all to myself.
By Michael Moynihan in the Irish Examiner

"All this sightseeing and beach-going is all well and good,
but I’m glad there’s not much else to distract me from the main reason I love San Sebastian: the food."

by Katie Hammel on Spain Travel Guide

"The perfect pintxo should have exquisite taste, texture and appearance, and should be savoured in two elegant bites; it transcends the commonplace by the sheer panache of its culinary campness."
from Lonely Planet guide

"After a trip to Spain this summer, I’m convinced:
the effervescence that buoyed French nouvelle cuisine in the 1970’s has somehow been piped across the Pyrenees."
by Arthur Lubow in NY Times
