Casa Curutchet
Le Corbusier | |
| location | La Plata |
| function | clinic, private house |
| contributed by | MVar |
This is the only residence Le Corbusier built in America. Its the most recognized peace of Modern Arquitecture in Argentina. Doctor Curutchet contacted LC through his sister living in Paris, to design his office and house. LC never visited the site during this project and all contact was made by mail. The building begins with the entrance, where the stand-alone door frame leads into a courtyard that separates the front office from the residence. Two opposing concrete ramps connect the structures. A tree works its way up through the building. The entire space is dynamic. There are curved internal structures on the top floor that contrast with the overall angular nature of the building. The medical practice, supported on pilotis with brise-soleils, bridges the full width of the site. The house is a cube to the rear of the site. This building incorporates the principles of Modernism, pilotis, free ground plan, continuous windows, free façade and garden terrace.
