Achpark
Achpark sits on a rectangular parcel of land, bounded on one side (the east) by one of the main roads in and out of Bregenz, and on the north side by the river that forms the southern boundary of Bregenz. The rectangular footprint echoes that of the site. On the lower levels are located the public facilities - a car showroom and shops. The upper levels are given to offices. These are generally pushed to the perimeter of the building and look into a large open court. On the outside the two main materials are copper strip cladding and glass. The latter is used to perforate the façade where noise intrusion from the adjacent road is not an issue. For the offices, where sound polution is more of a concern, the windows are reduced to small rectangles. Around the central court, the offices are more extensively glazed to maximise the natural light. The height of the building is varied in steps to provide visual interest.
