Sankt Gerold Community Centre
The existing situation is characterized topographically by steeply dropping southern slopes. The place gets structural reference in the direct neighbourhood by an old school building, one-family houses slope-sided and the Propstei (a kind of monastery) valley-sided. The new community centre is positioned as a four-storey building, laterally shifted to the schoolhouse. The functions of the centre are stacked vertically and range from a kindergarten, children's game group, village shop, multi-purpose room and municipality room. Designed as a constructive timber building, the ground-touching support walls are made from reinforced concrete. The appearance of the first four-storey timber building in the state of Vorarlberg is determined by the change between an uniform façade screen and aimed set openings. It subtly shows the dynamism of the interior organisation. All construction units are made of massive wood and come mainly from local forests.
