Originally a teacher training college (Ecole Normal Supérieure), the campus and buildings were designed by Cambodian architect Vann Molyvann and were completed in 1972. The library is housed in a circular 2 storey building, while specialist teaching spaces are in dynamic, elevated spaces with carefully modulated daylight and cross-ventilation to avoid air-conditioning. The main block, with deep over-hangs and brise-soliel panels, has a three-storey tall central void with a full height scissor-stair and houses administrative and teaching spaces. Construction is of in-situ concrete with some brick cladding panels. The concrete detailing is particularly fine and reflects timber construction. The planning of the site and the use of elevated processional walkways refers to the archetypical diagram of the 11th C Angkorian temple.
