Suure-Jaani Sports Centre
According to Suure-Jaani locals, a 'vegetable soup' has emerged literally in their rural town in Southern Estonia. Architect Veronika Valk sums up her creation: "The neo-pop bright coloured sports complex features open-plan ball courts with sponge-like walls and felt panel ceilings for acoustic comfort. Kids are thrilled by the fully climbable façade - concrete slabs covered with a perimetral ladder of untreated Siberian larix. The canopy's slim steel supports separating the inner courtyard from the street are in fact bicycle racks. The interior design is full of integrated solutions, e.g. cupboards as drawing boards and exterior lighting doubling as interior illumination via glass cupolas."
