Wildly controversial at first, today universally regarded as an emblem of the city of Berlin: Hans Scharoun’s Philharmonie. In 1956 the architect’s design won the competition for the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s new concert hall, but his modern, visionary conception also unleashed a great hubbub. The building went up (1960-63) in the face of great resistance. In the meantime, this concert hall with its unique architecture and acoustics has become a model for many others all over the world. The Philharmonie can be visited even when no concert is taking place within its walls – either virtually, online, or with a guided tour, on site. (from website philharmoniker)

Opening hours Guided tours of both the Philharmonic Hall and the Chamber Music Hall are offered daily (except 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 1 January). Starting time: 1 pm. Meeting point: Artist’s entrance (Doorman of the Philharmonic Hall). Access across the parking lot. Fees: € 3.00, € 2.00 (for students, unemployed, retired and disabled persons). Groups of more than 10 persons are asked to make a reservation by contacting: Tel. +49 (0)30.254 88-156. tour@berliner-philharmoniker.de
How to get there? with the U-Bahn: take line U2 to Potsdamer Platz or Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park stations. with the S-Bahn: take lines S1, S2, S25, S26 to Potsdamer Platz. by bus, directly to the Philharmonie: lines 200 (to Philharmonie), M48 (to Kulturforum); other bus lines (within a short walk): M29 (to Potsdamer Brücke), M41 (Potsdamer Platz) .
