Phaeno Science Centre
What is phaeno? A hall? A landscape with craters, hills, caves and plateaus? Or a spaceship preparing for take off? Phaeno provides hands-on entertaining access to the phenomena of natural science and the principles of technology. It has exhibition rooms, laboratoria and a science theatre. The building is made with the use of "self-compacting concrete", a special cast-in-situ concrete. Without the new type of concrete, the diverse forms of phaeno – its jagged angles, looming curves, fractured planes and daring protrusions – would have been difficult to achieve. As phaeno explains: “Its form is programmatic: the world of phćno recognizes no distinct boundaries, its dynamic landscape awakens the sense of wonder and kindles the zest for discovery. The dynamic structure of this experimental environment is constructed animation, curiosity made concrete.”
