Mahatma Gandhi Marg Private House
A modern relationship between exterior and interior but in a traditional style, this project is an attempt to see how each element responds to the daily changing environment and how it effects one's behaviour and thought process. The concept is based on the essence of light, air and ventilation, which is the essence of life. It is an attempt to follow a contemporary style, whilst living close to nature. A 35-year old 'barsati' (house with one bedroom and a terrace) of 1100 square feet was renovated into a two-bedroom house, a private house for the architect himself and his wife. The design concept revolved around the terrace, which had never been used since its existence and had all the rooms overlooking it. A raised platform at the centre is the focal point which visually connects all the spaces. Big windows opening onto the terrace allows light and air ventilation into the interior, bringing a flow of energy in the space.
