Cuore Immacolato di Maria Church
Giuseppe Vaccaro | |
| location | Bologna |
| function | church |
| contributed by | zenoso |
Architect Giuseppe Vaccaro was inspired by Western, Proto-Christian models to express themes of the Lercaro period, which was very harsh at times. The building has a dialectical, totally unambiguous relationship with the area. The church stands at the centre of a piazza and, with its central plan and perfectly circular shape, forms a detached block. The white plaster which is used both inside and outside is visually relaxing as you look along its perfectly round walls. Light enters at the top of the building through windows positioned along the entire wall perimeter, creating a reflective half-light in the area used by worshippers (text from www.architetturadelmoderno.it).
