Casa Cattaneo in Cernobbio, Italy, was built in 1938-1939, shortly before the outbreak of World War II, and still has the power to amaze, both for its extraordinary formal complexity and its effect of a great completeness. It remains the most important of the projects carried out by the architect, who died at the age of thirty-one, just four years after the completion of the building.
