Palasport Olimpico
The 'Palasport Olimpico' or 'Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games Ice Hockey Stadium' is a multi-purpose indoor sports/concert arena in Turin. The design by Arata Isozaki, Archa and Arup won first place in an open competition in June 2002. The unique stainless steel façade is composed of glass 'window slots'. These not only allow natural light in the building, but also break the continuity of the stainless steel. During the 2006 Winter Olympics, the windows were covered to provide professional ice-hockey conditions. Arup provided all engineering services, including specialist sports design input. The stadium was inaugurated in December 2005.
