This pavilion opens up to an underground presentation space where visitors can descend into history and discover old remains of the fortifications of the city of 's-Hertogenbosch. The name 'Bastionder' is a merge of the words Bastion and 'onder' (Dutch for underneath). Inside you can also meet the mediaeval canon Stuer Gewalt or 'De Boze Griet'. The design is part of a large scale initiative of the city to renovate, revive and remember it's past. This example is a new intervention to show the old, but in some parts of the former city wall the 'revival' is taken more literally and completely obsolete bastions are being rebuilt. From the Bastionder the visitor can enjoy the views over the nature area, the polder of Het Bossche Broek. The pavilion can be visited during a boat tour on the 'Binnendieze', an interior city river running through the old city centre. Or book a city walk, and visit the pavilion as part of the tour.
