With a spectacular view over the city's Zoo, Artis, this residential building with 110 luxury apartments, catering and two collective business units, is the last in a row of former warehouses on the Entrepotdok. Aquartis was build on the site of a former coal storage unit, the supporting wall of this old building has been preserved and has become part of the new building. The existing supporting wall has been integrated in a new plinth, a rhythm of brick piers. Liesbeth van der Pol has carefully assimilated the existing context and attuned the housing block to it. The front façade is built up with wooden frames filled with glass which can fold inward, opened fully to maximize light and views. Aquartis is a deep greyish purple, which accentuates the monumental character of the block.
