Amsterdam is the first city in the world to make use of Booster pumping stations in the sewerage on such a large-scale. In this kind of pumping stations the sewage is not stopped firstly in a cellar, but directly propelled to the next pump. The construction of such a station is cheaper than a traditional pumping station. Moreover the energy consumption is lower and it releases no nasty smells. In the design of the Booster pumping station North Bonnemayer Architects wanted to express what is happening inside the station. Keywords are tubes, strength, propulsion, and dynamics! The result is a pumping station that looks like a spacecraft, which has landed just now. The suggestion of movement is clearly present. And to emphasize what is internally taking place, a part of the control work has been made visible by lifting up the metal outlet-pipes.
