One of four new booster sewage pumping stations is situated in an industrial area in the city’s Zuideramstel district, on the corner of a busy junction and right next to a railway viaduct. The building contains 3 pumps, a high- and low-tension unit, a traveling crane and pipes. Because the stainless steel façade is stretched like a tight skin around this minimal programme, the building looks like a streamlined science fiction sculpture. Almost like a spaceship. The incoming and outgoing pipes, together with the ventilation grilles, are exposed to view on the side of the road and contribute to the booster station’s aerodynamic appearance.
