Tram depot the Halls is a national monument and has historically been a closed enclave in the late nineteenth-century expansion of Amsterdam, characterized by long closed brick blocks with monumental facades facing the street, roofs with their slender frames and Polonceau rafters are remarkably. The Halls is a traditional, functionalistic complex build for the maintenance of the first electric trams around 1900. The building was in a deplorable state when Andre van Stigt started the renovation. Now this former tram depot has been converted in a unique complex, containing 3 state of the art television studios, a brasserie, a restaurant, the Foodhallen, a movie theartre, a library, a hotel and a craft center. Life-blood of the Halls is the Passage that connects the Bilderdijkkade and Ten Kate Market together. The passage has a public function. It is the ideal place for special markets such as Local Goods, exhibitions, the red carpet for the movie halls or catwalk at fashion shows.
