Holatuka
'Holatuka' is an urban renewal programme in Amsterdam, which takes its name from the two streets in which this programme was realized: Hoogte Kadijk and Laagte Kadijk. On Hoogte Kadijk, the façades of the existing buildings have a slender, vertical rhythm, so the newly built structure was fitted into this sequence accordingly with a slender, vertical façade as well. On Laagte Kadijk, where this traditional rhythm is absent, the newly built structure is therefore much wider. On Hoogte Kadijk, the new building consists of social housing units for rent, while on Laagte Kadijk, spacious apartments for sale make up the lot. The building shown here is the one on Hoogte Kadijk (text from website Claus en Kaan architects).
