This small highlight glasshouse on a floating pontoon is located opposite the Central Station on the north bank of ‘het IJ’, the water that separates the north and south of Amsterdam. The glasshouse, which houses the Overhoeks Information Centre, has a first storey, so that an extra surface area is created for the users. The objective of the information centre is to provide information for the future inhabitants of the new district Overhoeks (former Shell site), which is to be realised in the coming years. The name ‘Overhoeks’ refers to the wayward diagonal orientation of the Shell tower at site. The new district will combine functions as living, working and leisure. Around 2200 apartments and penthouses will be developed, aswell as offices and workingplaces in new and historic buildings, restaurants, terraces, a hotel and a public parc at the banks of ‘het IJ’. The new Filmmuseum and Tolhuistuin will become the cultural attractions of this new part of Amsterdam at a unique location.
