The Pyramids
Marcanti Eiland is a triangular-shaped island in Amsterdam, whose housing plan dates from the early 1980s. To top off the island, Soeters van Eldonk architecten has designed a building that gives Marcanti Eiland its own recognizable place in the built environment of Amsterdam. The building consists of two triangular-shaped towers (reflecting the contours of the island), slid in each other. It contains 82 apartments of differing dimensions; from the sixth story upwards it consists of luxury apartments with a private balcony and a panoramic view of the city. Because the housing programme has been kept compact, an extensive parking programme could be built into the design. Above ground, this parking garage made room for a public square where social and cultural events can take place.
