BK City Faculty of Architecture
A fire at the TU Delft Faculty of Architecture on 13 May 2008 led to a new and challenging task: transforming a former 'public building' into a temporary new building for the Faculty of Architecture. Braaksma & Roos created a transformatory concept for this plan. Within only a few months the entire building was renovated and prepared for education. Several parties were invited to collaborate and design parts of the building. Fokkema Architecten was responsible at BK City for the programming, design of offices and student workshops, the library and signposting. Kossman.deJong made the design of the general spaces in BK City. Special areas such as the 'Ketelhuis' restaurant and the interior 'street' with public areas have been designed on the principle that the experience is paramount. Other parties include Octatube (two glazed atriums), 2012 Architects (Espressobar), MVRDV (orange tribune), Richard Hutten and Vitra (most furniture in the building).
