In the dune valley of Meijendel lies the visitors centre of Dunea, the Dune Water Company of The Hague. Dunea manages and protects the reclamation of drinking water in the beautiful dunes between Monster and Katwijk, enjoyed annually by 1 million visitors. The dunes are used as natural filters for river water. To create a larger space for education on dunes and water, for both adults and (school)children in the region, they decided to make a larger visitor centre. In may 2012 a new horse stable was build and in september the new visitor center 'De Tapuit' was opened inside the old horse stable. The new interior inside the former horse stable was designed by architecture office Fokkema & partners, as was the new horse stable next door. It is the only visitor centre in one of the few large natural areas in this region.
