Philips Research WY
WY building on the Philips High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, with more than 25,000sqm is one of the largest buildings of Philips Research. Together with the adjacent building WB, it's an iconic element on the campus for its central location and size 9-storeys. WY building dates from 1968 and was originally built as a laboratory. To future-proof the building a rigorous refurbishment was done. The laboratories are replaced by offices, combined with testing facilities and electronics labs. The building is in use as a multi-tenant building with multiple users both from Philips Research and abroad. Later extensions in the low-rise are removed. A new entrance is created: a thin and transparent volume. The entrance is linked to a whole new elevator core. The former elevator cores are replaced by new toilets. The façades had some major surgery done, like opening the heads with large windows. In addition, the existing wooden frames were completely replaced by much thinner aluminium frames.
