Piazza shopping mall
The existing seventies shopping centre has been redeveloped and enlarged. The project is situated in the post-war city centre of Eindhoven, next to the monumental Bijenkorf building by Gio Ponti. The public passage that connects the north part and the south of the Eindhoven city centre is articulated by a glass roof that extends over the square in front of the building. The original square Piazza was designed by Gio Ponti, with seating on the square of the Italian artist Negri. Part of it has now moved to the side of the Bijenkorf. Ventilating units of the basement were hidden in a artwork consisting of a set of stainless steel tubes, by Frans Gast. This has now been reinstated in the Henri Dunant Park.
