location Hoofddorp
function bus station

The building is completely made of polystyrene foam and polyester and is, as such, the world's largest structure in synthetic materials (50m x 10m x 5m). The available budget meant that it could never have been created using conventional construction methods. (nio architecten_the complete text is available on nio.nl. See The Amazing Whale Jaw) This station is one of the first buildings in the world, from which the construction parts are manufactured directly out of a computer program by a computer-controlled grinder. The bus station serves Spaarne Hospital and is located at the square in front of the hospital.

How to get there? Hoofddorp is a small but fast-growing town near Schiphol Airport, one stop on the train towards Den Haag (or from Amsterdam, one stop beyond Schiphol on the stopping train towards Den Haag). From Hoofddorp train station, you can reach the bus station by bus in about 20 minutes: take a bus marked "Spaarne Ziekenhuis". Routes 52 and 196 both work; you can also take route 196 directly from Schiphol Airport.
