In 2012 a water pavilion within the ramparts of the castle was realized for the Rijksmuseum Muiderslot. The pavilion "Water shield" represents the special relationship between the Muiderslot and the water. The unique location of the castle, as part of the Old and the New Dutch Waterline and the 'Stelling van Amsterdam' and the continuing struggle against the water are addressed. The pavilion rises as a shield from the lawn next to the plum orchard. The deepened pavilion is a place for visitors to the Muiderslot to learn about this special place. The water is literally defied but it is also a place for meeting and reflection.
