Maritime Museum
The Maritime Museum in Rotterdam is the oldest museum on navigation, shipping and shipbuilding in the Netherlands. The origins of the collection start around 1874, with literature, paintings, models, drawings, maps, atlases, globes and instruments; all related to the art of navigation and voyages of discovery. The building not only comprises exposition space, but also houses a large library with (inter)national maritime documentation. Dutch architect Wim Quist designed the triangular museum, and later, in 2004, added an extension to the building. Immediately south of the museum is an open air Inland Shipping Museum, dedicated to inland water transport.
