Town Hall Slochteren Extension

For the extension of the town hall in Slochteren, Dutch architectural firm zofa made the new structure contrast with the existing building, while looking for connections with the surroundings. The way the extension manifests itself in the landscape and the references it makes to shape and material play a big part in this process. One could see the extension as an ennobled shed, in which wood and glass interplay. It is not a replica, but a reference in which old and new coexist. It is in this contrast that the formal front façade and the informal, utilitarian back façade should be seen.
