Haans office
The actual office is a transparent cube that hangs from 16 columns below the protruding steel canopy. The columns are 20 meters tall and are arranged in a taut, rectangular grid; a number of them stand outside the outer wall. This use of supporting columns gave maximal freedom for dividing up the space, which is nowhere completely interrupted. All 5 storeys form open galleries of different widths, connected only by a vertical aluminium shaft which houses the lift, wiring, toilets and kitchenettes. Prisms in the double glazing control the incidence of light. On the ground floor a bridge over the water links the office with the showroom and the company restaurant on terra firma. The original plan also included a fan of 5 storage depots, but they were never built.
