Forum ’t Zand
This so called Brede School (‘broad-school’) is a multifunctional building with a sports facility, kindergarten and two primary schools. It is situated next to an archaeological park with Roman remains. This SF-design is now a new cultural and educational public centre for the newly built residential neighbourhood.
To ensure maximum flexibility and super-use of space, several walls between different programmatic functions can be joined, moved or separated to create large spaces that can house big groups for joint activities. The corridors are also used for educational purposes, hence the royal measurements. Even though roof of the central hall is leaking, and the trees were too expensive to plant inside this space, the building, with its space-shuttle-like interior and exterior has won several design prizes.
