ROC Aventus
The ROC Aventus offers vocational training, based on alliances with the region and is located between the old fortified town and the area called ‘De Mars’ in Zutphen. After the demolition of the fortifications (and the former soldier’s marching grounds, hence the name) at the end of the 19th century, this area grew into an industrial island. It no longer complies with today’s sustainability requirements and it’s difficult to access by road. The Zutphen trainstation location fits perfectly into this context: the visual transition from old town to the area to be developed as ‘new town’, the ‘De Mars’ area; the start of the process of transformation from dilapidated sites to sustainable area; and also the start of a cultural strip and a cycling and walking route which links the old with the new. Each of the 4 storeys refers to different directions in the urban plan: old and new town, railway and IJssel. The location’s history is reflected in the windows, a projection of the road network.
