Symfonia Music Academy
The most important task of the competition brief was finding a solution which would grant the best acoustics for this auditorium hall. The winning entry proposed a 'double-layered' hall , i.e. one surrounded by reverberation space that could be joined with the main auditorium space by means of movable panels. Thus the reverberation time would vary, depending on the kind of music performed in the hall. The new building consists of two main blocks housing administration and library rooms, and an auditorium hall. It's architecture creatively continues the spatial language of the historical main Academy building. Implementation of the concept resulted in the creation of two spaces: an open one which forms a courtyard near the rectorate and a closed one, the glazed atrium housing the foyer and a garden. The Musical Academy in its final shape combines it's programme in a functional and spatial unity. The insertion of the compact block creates a new city fragment.
