Poznan is one of the oldest Polish cities. An interesting interpretation of its architectural heritage is found in suburban Naramowice district, where a new housing estate for 5000 residents was built on 50 ha. It is a small estate with 140 apartments. A close look at the façades reveals that the return to the past is not so much sentimental as ironic. No historic motifs were imitated or transformed. The roof geometry has nothing in common with the rhythm of gables in the Old Market in Poznan or the building structure. The rhythm of windows and balconies does not refer to classic proportions and multi-coloured brick was composed in belts, not coordinated with the division into 'houses' (text from Architektura-Murator 4/2009).
