Serbian architect Branislav Mitrovic, in cooperation with Biljana Begenisic, has designed this church in Eastern Serbia. It is consecrated to The Birth of Holy Mother in Stipina (Serbia) for the Serbian Orthodox Church, which is dominated by a conservative attitude towards the construction of new temples. Prevailing is the attitude that temples should be built after the model of historical Serbian-Byzantine-Moravian traditional objects, in accordance with the strict canons of the past. Designing and building this church near Knjazevac is a dialogue with such an attitude. It represents a series of arguments, in order to create a different ambience which would favour development of solutions and spatial forms, and not just read or copy the old Serbian temples. Proportion and scale of the temple interior are dimensioned relying on historical construction rules.
