Museum of the Slovak National Uprising
The Museum of the Slovak National Uprising (SNU) resides in an architecturally unusual building built in 1969 as the Memorial of the Slovak National Uprising. It is symbolically divided into two parts linked by a bridge. Under the bridge, in the reverence hall with the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, burns the ever-burning light. The building is situated on the south-western edge of the historical centre of Banská Bystrica. Since 1969 the museum lies in the south-eastern segment of the historical centre of Banská Bystrica near the river Hron. The building consists of a southern and northen part, linked by a bridge, in which the permanent exhibitions of the museum are located. In area between the two sections there is a common hall with the symbolic ‘grave of the unknown soldier’ and an eternal flame.
