Initially known as Hotel Habitat Sky, the building was sold in 2008 to Melia Hotels. Hence, its name was changed to Hotel ME Barcelona. The hotel is thought of as a play of volumes. A cubic building acts as a counterpoint behind the tower, which is a rectangular parallelepiped cut lengthwise in two, with one of them half-shifted skywards. This rupture of the perfect geometric block creates a movement of form and volume that bestows an urban sense on the insertion of the tower in the horizontal city. The shifted half-volume creates the building's reference signs: down, the cantilever at 25 metres height that acts as a gateway; up, the crest in the skyline. The hotel's skin is made of micro-perforated aluminium behind a glass curtain wall, which gives the building the image of a bright metal needle.
