" Nineteen of the world's best architects create the hotel of the future in Madrid". Madrid's five-star Hotel Puerta America, commissioned by Spanish hotel company Silken Hotels, has opened its doors to the public. Each of the hotel's 12 floors bears the imprint of a different design talent. The external structure was developed by SGA Studio and is a fairly standard rectangular tower block. Pawson did the common areas, while Jean Nouvel designed the cladding on the facade and was commissioned to design the 12th floor. To Marc Newson's opinion, the project has been an excellent opportunity to design what he always wanted to find in a hotel: “to create a modern and relaxing environment in the rooms, where any guest can feel comfortable at once, even if they are staying only one night”. He also designed the Marmo Bar on the Ground Floor. It features Statuario Venato white marble weighing more than six tons. The walls and ceilings are lined with 400 thin strips of laser-cut aluminum.
