Centro Parraga
Centro Parraga occupies one of the pavilions of the former Artillery Quarter. The intervention does not look for a perfect coupling between the original construction and the new programme, but rather to show the degrees of violence produced by the insertion of the new programme. The project emphasizes the process of the architectonic intervention; its objective is to maximize the technical and programmatic versatility, instead of reaching a formal unity. The intervention does not empty the building completely and preserves the façades as an urban decorative element. It tries to keep the original function of the constructive elements as much as possible, i.e. the façade and former in-situ concrete ribbed floors retain their structural function. The exterior image manifests the contrast between the deep and harsh texture of the former plasters, consolidated but not recovered, and the smooth new materials like galvanized steel, extra-clear glass and aluminium.
