Kurtzio Centre
The cultural centre is conceived as an open building, accessible,
pleasing, in harmony with its surroundings, with low urban density and in close proximity to a park filled with trees. We were looking for a blend of both aspects: building and park. The result is a low height building surrounded by green landscape and divided into two sections that open to the outside. This small landscape descends in between those two sections until it reaches the central area of the building allowing access and illumination to the lower ground, and creating an open-air auditorium. Both sections intercommunicate via glass galleries that surround the patio achieving a great transparency and permeability inside the building, making communication easier and encouraging the relationship among the different activities that take place in the building. Those activities are as follows: Basque language classes, adult classes, youth activities, IT classes and an auditorium with capacity for 175 people.
