Visitor Centre Baelo Claudia
This visitors centre is built on the site of the ruins of the Roman city of Baelo Claudia, an important archaeological location. The program of the building can be divided into two big areas: the public spaces with permanent and temporal exposition spaces, and secondly the internal areas, with rooms for conservation, investigation and administration.
It is one long volume, perforated by 4 patios. Each patio has it's own character. A large patio with trees, a patio with two open sides, one patio on a terrace open to the surroundings, and the last one in the court near the entrance.
The openings give the building a high abstract image, related to the institutional conditions and users. The sun plays a large part in the look of the large high façade, with varying parts open and closed and partly in shade.
The white façade is constructed in concrete, creating an image strongly related to the local architecture in Andalucia.
