Bridge Pavilion Expo 2008
This project combines an interactive exhibition area focussing on water sustainability and a pedestrian bridge to perform as gateway for the Zaragoza Expo 2008. The bridge is built on 2 levels, with walkways and display space. The structure is largely visible, enclosing exhibition spaces, and offering direct visual connections with the river whilst also shading from the sun. It rests on the riverbanks of the Ebro River and a central island in its waters. It has an organic shape that criss-crosses and resembles a gladiola opening and closing like a natural element. The Expo terrain is called the Meandro de Ranillas, a large area of rustic land north west of the city centre, created by the Ebro River basin that forms a natural barrier between the city of Zaragoza and the fertile agricultural areas on the banks of the river.
Especially in Spain the importance of water has to be underlined and promoted! :)
