Just as their windows attempt to dissolve the boundary between inside and outside, so G. Baumgartner AG wanted to avoid any sharp divide between the (substantial) extension of their window factory and the neighbouring Reuss-Lorze area. Keen to spare the vulnerable natural landscape, the client engaged an architect/landscape architect team to design a building that would create a balance between public and private space, ecological and economic demands, architecture and landscape. The solution operates in two directions. To compensate for the newly built surface, the overhanging roof was planted with grass so that it appears as a green meadow that merges with the landscape. In front of the actual glass façade, wooden frames were placed. At present they frame the landscape, but in time they will turn into hedges as they become overgrown by the vegetation planted below.
