One of the earliest works by Herzog & de Meuron, this small house was designed for a young family with one child. Formally, it is similar to its neighbours; its main distinguishing feature is the colour of its gable fašades - an Yves Klein blue. Inside, spaces are very small - kitchen is reduced to its very basics, a narrow stair winds its way up to upper top floor with one bedroom cum bathroom, a child's bedroom and a small playroom. Living room has some built in furniture and opens up to a garden. "Blaues Haus" can be seen as an archetypal building, the form of which is repeated in the stacked-up composition of the recently completed "Vitra Haus" in Weil am Rhein.
