Wohnsiedlung Werdwies
Located in the neighbourhood of both the calm Limmat river and a busy elevated highway, the seven building volumes of the Werdwies project create an enclosed public space.
The seven free standing rectangular apartment blocks, each with their own distinguishable volume all have similar heights and have been placed on the edges of the building site. In between differently sized open spaces are created, each with their own character.
Each 8-storey volume houses 8 apartments per floor with a rentable spaces on the ground floor. These now offer a diverse set of facilities ranging from a supermarket and a bar to a hairdresser and kindergarten. An internal courtyard with gallery walkways provides access to the apartments and two switchable rooms per floor. The small apartments on the long sides of the building have additional windows onto the courtyard to compensate for their single-aspect orientation.
