In the 1965 TV film "Six Men", Madin describes this building as his first "proper job". He received this commission in 1954 - four years after starting his own practice. Unashamedly modern, it reveals many European influences. From the recessed doorway on the right hand side of the front elevation, the visitor enters a transverse reception hall, at the far end of which is the principle staircase to the upper level. The ground floor holds a board/conference room, with most of the executive spaces on the travertine clad first floor. Madin designed the carpets, door furniture, curtains and panelling, most of which are still extant. A less formal, more discrete, brick built two storey tail of offices leads off the back. The building sits comfortably in its Georgian context, and in 1960 it won him the first of his six Civic Trust awards.
