Canary Wharf Underground Station is built in a hollow of the former West India Dock. It is intensively used, with more peak time travellers than those using Oxford Circus. Constructed using 'cut-and-cover' techniques, the station itself is entirely underground. The only elements of the building that are visible externally are the vaulted glass canopies above the entrances. The roof of the station - the building's 'lid' - has been landscaped as a public park, with grass, trees, seating, fountains and paths. On entering the station concourse from either the platforms or from surface level at Canary Wharf, the large size of this space makes a notable impact.

If you like shiny things go and look at this. Travel there on the Tube, during daylight hours, but not at rush hour (7-10 am and 5 pm to 6:30pm). Marvel at the many internal escalators, boggle at the number of ticket gates, and feel yourself entering a brave new world as you leave via the long, shiny, sunlit exit escalators. Then turn to your right and look up.

Opening hours Monday - Saturday: 6 am to midnight. Sunday and public holidays: 8 am to 11 pm.
How to get there? Travelling time from Canary Wharf, via the Jubilee Line, to London Bridge, is 7 minutes, to Waterloo 11 minutes, to Westminster 13 minutes, to Green Park 15 minutes and to Baker Street 20 minutes. Canary Wharf Docklands Light Railway and Jubilee Line stations are in zone 2.
