Lloyd's of London is a dedicated Insurance House - it is not connected to Lloyd's Bank. It has often been described as London's Pompidou Centre, a building with which it shares a considerable amount of 'DNA'. It comprises of an annular ring of office space, 12 storeys high, dropping down to six - around a rectangular atrium - with all the ancilliary accommodation - lifts, stairs, toilets - located in separate stainless steel clad towers. The lifts in the tower are the first examples of all glass lift cars in the UK. The cladding of the atrium - 84 metres high - has been likened to Paxton's Crystal Palace. Internally, the atrium is renowned for having all the levels linked by escalators.

Opening hours The building is not normally open to the public, but usually takes part in London Open House (www.londonopenhouse.org) when, for one weekend in September, many buildings around the capital are open free to the public.
How to get there? Nearest tube stations are Bank (Central, Northern, and Waterloo & City Lines), Liverpool Street (Central, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines), Monument (District & Circle Lines), Aldgate (Metropolitan line) and Tower Hill (Circle & District).
