Tower Place is a speculative office development adjacent to The Tower of London. It comprises of two triangular blocks, linked by an atrium. The buildings themselves are, to be honest, somewhat ordinary, but what makes this project interesting is the space between them. The atrium has a public right of way running through it; is open at ground level and is slickly detailed. The glass roof is supported on a series of slender, circular steel columns. The atrium side walls are formed with suspended glass sheets. Whilst the glass is strong enough to support its own weight when suspended from high level, wind loads still need to be resisted. Foster and his team have used steel cables to resist suction forces, tied back to the columns. These cables, in turn, run through glass tubes, with tapered metal caps at each end for elegance and ease of fixing, which resist the compressive forces. The whole scheme sits on a huge coach/bus park, which caters for tourists visiting The Tower.

Project is public!
Opening hours The Atrium is open 24 hours a day, but the buildings themselves are not open to the public.
How to get there? The nearest tube station is Tower Hill (Circle and District Lines). The atrium space has a public right of way, from where you should be able to take photographs, although the security guards might take exception to this. Legally there's nothing they can do if you stand within the zone defined by the brass studs in the ground.
