Business and technology park buildings in the UK - outside London - have a tendency to look like overblown versions of a Frank Lloyd Wright prairie house. Huge pitched roofs, with oversailing eaves, sit on a brick base with punched windows. This building, also known as Iceni, breaks this mold. Unlike its neighbours, (which subscribe to the previously mentioned format) number 7 has a flat roof which allowed the architects to put in three floors of accommodation, where most neighbouring developments only have two, for the same overall building height. The more contemporary appearance is achieved with a proprietary curtain walling system. The spandrels and columns (originally intended to be pre-cast concrete) are formed with pressed metal panels with a polyester finish. A steel frame structure, with clear, 15m wide, column-free interiors affords maximum internal flexibility.
